ETNA Products, Inc. manufactures a complete line of MASTERALL® industrial grinding oils and grinding fluids formulated to inhibit the effects of friction, remove heat from the work zone, and remove swarf generated by the grinding operation. Our industrial grinding oils and water soluble oils have been formulated to meet the demands of customers in a wide variety of industries.

Don’t sacrifice part quality, tool life, or machine tool compatibility by substituting your grinding fluids with cheaper coolants. Our line of MASTERALL® grinding fluids are specially designed to increase the material removal rate of the workpiece while preserving the integrity of the workpiece surface. The MASTERALL® product line features neat oils, water soluble oils, and solution synthetics developed to extend the tool life and improve the performance of your grinding equipment.

Our water miscible oils are formulated with unique bio-stability properties that help our customers reduce or eliminate the use of tank side additives. Water soluble oils are different than industrial grinding oils and greases which are typically used to reduce friction in moving parts such as spindles and ways.

ETNA Products, Inc. offers custom industrial grinding oils and grinding coolants to meet specific customer requirements.

CHOOSING AND APPLYING GRINDING FLUID

The ETNA line of grinding oils and grinding fluids may be used on centerless, creep feed, cylindrical, and ID/OD industrial grinders. Choosing the right grinding fluid will depend on the metallurgy of the part being ground, composition and hardness of the grinding wheel, total material removed, the surface feet per minute (SFM) of the grinding operation and the surface finish requirements of the finished part.

Water soluble oils and solution synthetics are commonly used for most grinding operations. Typically, the concentration of water soluble oils range from 5 to 15%. The performance of water soluble oils may vary according to water quality and bacterial growth. Semi-synthetic coolants contain mineral oil, but at a lower percentage compared to water soluble oils. Semi-synthetic coolants provide excellent lubricity and bio-stability. Industrial synthetic grinding coolant, which does not contain oil, is the best to use in many grinding operations where heat removal is critical in extending grinding performance. In addition, solution synthetics are very clean and offer excellent bio-stability.

Selecting the appropriate grinding fluid for a given grinding operation is important, and once the fluid is inside of the machine it is critical to apply it correctly. The grinding wheel carries the fluid into and around the arc of the cut. The grinding fluid has to be applied to the outside of the wheel just prior to the point that it enters the arc of the cut. The discharge velocity of the fluid should be equivalent to the surface feet per minute (SFM) of the grinding wheel. Once the grinding fluid is properly applied, it will be easier to gauge the performance of the coolant through the analysis of surface finish, total power utilized, stock removal rate and wheel life.

AQUEOUS AND SOLVENT BASED CLEANERS

Whether it is the machine tool or the part after the process, aqueous and solvent based cleaners are never independent of what they are supposed to clean. It is helpful to view this as a relationship: the piece to be cleaned, the “soil” on it to be removed, and the cleaner to remove it. When viewed as a process, both the soil and the cleaner may be modified according to the operation.

RUST PREVENTATIVES

We offer a full line of rust preventatives and corrosion inhibitors sold under the STEELHIDE® brand. These rust preventives and corrosion inhibitors are used to preserve the appearance of the finished workpiece for indoor or outdoor storage conditions. Our STEELHIDE® product line includes solvent based, water miscible, and neat oil rust preventatives.

COOLANT MAINTENANCE

Coolant maintenance is important to any machining process because the swarf generated by the grinding process can contaminate your coolant solution at an accelerated rate. Swarf proliferation may also lead to a buildup of bacteria and fungi that may affect the life of the grinding fluid.

Many factors ranging from evaporation to oxidation of the coolant components will affect the performance of the industrial grinder. The extreme heat produced at the workpiece may break down the fatty additives, extreme pressure additives, biocides, and corrosion inhibitors that make up the coolant formulation. In addition, “tramp” oil and other contaminants may enter the industrial grinder and affect the coolant performance. Our grinding coolant maintenance program will help you track contaminants entering the grinding system and monitor the pH level of the coolant solution.

Send us a request and we’ll respond immediately to fulfill your grinding coolant needs.
